During a visit to the Port Monday, Gov. Jay Inslee toured a project to modernize two Port piers to ensure Husky Terminal remains big-ship ready. He also spoke with the State Route 167 Completion Coalition.

The work planned at Pier 4 will strengthen the wharf and reconfigure it to align it with Pier 3, which is currently being upgraded to handle larger container cranes. Once complete, the two piers will be able to berth two of the larger container vessels expected to cascade into the trans-Pacific service.

We also talked with the governor about the competitive pressures facing the maritime industry, particularly U.S. West Coast ports, and how critical investments in transportation infrastructure—including completing State Route 167—will help keep the Puget Sound gateway competitive.
