At their Thursday meeting, commissioners are expected to consider a request for design work of the next step in redeveloping the general central peninsula to handle the world’s largest container ships.

The work at Husky Terminal’s Pier 4 will remove and reconfigure the wharf to align with Pier 3, which is currently being upgraded to handle larger container cranes.

The project will result in a nearly 3,000-foot-long contiguous pier capable of berthing two of the larger vessels expected to cascade into the trans-Pacific service. The work also includes removing contaminated material found during required sediment sampling.

Commissioners will also hear requests to sell two properties at the Frederickson Industrial Area, complete environmental cleanup work at Port properties and approve several interlocal agreements, including one with Tacoma Rail to repower a locomotive using grant money. See the full agenda.

Commission meetings begin at noon in Room 104 of the Fabulich Center, 3600 Port of Tacoma Road. Meetings are streamed live on the Port's website.
