Although the Legislature once again chose not to fund the completion of the State Route 167, the need for this critical freight connection has not gone away.

This is especially true for the agriculture sector, which relies on the Port of Tacoma as an important gateway to international markets. This is why the Agriculture Transportation Coalition (AgTC) has thrown its support behind the project.

Speaking on the behalf of the group, Executive Director Peter Friedmann said, "Tacoma has always been important to ag exporters; in view of the uncertainty in the Port of Portland, efficient access to the Port of Tacoma is critical. You can count on AgTC's support for this project."

In 2012 the Port handled over $3.5 billion in agricultural exports.
