Construction on the Lower Wapato Creek Habitat Project continues with an eye toward making great habitat for salmon. With that in mind, two 60-inch culverts are being replaced by a 30-foot creek bed  and what was a ditch is being turned into acres of thriving estuary.

The project will re-establish stream and wetland habitat on approximately 20 acres of tidally influenced estuary and fish bearing stream. This type of habitat is very limited within Commencement Bay and is a high priority for restoration. This project will improve habitat on lower Wapato Creek, which will augment the Puyallup Tribe of Indian’s fish and wetland habitat site constructed upstream.
