The Port of Tacoma welcomes Carol Bua as its new director of communications. In this role, Bua will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the Port’s communications department, overseeing the development and execution of a comprehensive program that encompasses public relations, social media and media relations.

Bua brings more than 20 years of experience in communications, marketing and public relations in public and corporate sectors, most recently serving as the communications director for the city of Vancouver, Washington.

Prior to working for the city, Bua spent six years managing communications and public affairs for Tidewater, a multi-commodity tug and barge transportation and terminal company operating on the Columbia-Snake River System.

Bua holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from University of Washington and a Master of Science in strategic communications from the University of Oregon, Turnbull School of Journalism and Communication.
