Legislation introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives takes significant steps to improve U.S. port competitiveness and protect jobs.

H.R. 4105 is the companion to S. 1509, the Maritime Goods Movement Act. This measure provides much-needed comprehensive reform of the federal Harbor Maintenance Tax.

Passage of the bill would increase Washington state’s port competitiveness by directing additional federal investment to maritime infrastructure and leveling the playing field for U.S.-bound cargo.

We joined more than 50 business, government, labor and community leaders to thank Reps. Jim McDermott, Suzan DelBene, Denny Heck, Derek Kilmer, Rick Larsen and Adam Smith for introducing the bill.

The solutions in the Maritime Goods Movement Act strike the right balance to maintain the world-class trade gateways that support the Northwest’s economy.
