Project description

The project involves the removal of eight vacant structures (103,075 SF), disconnection and capping of utilities, and minimal fill and grade at five Port-owned properties in Tacoma, WA. Hazardous materials will be remediated per the surveys for the structures in accordance with all applicable laws and requirements. This includes materials containing asbestos, lead, mercury, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and any other hazardous materials found during demolition. The demolition will be conducted mechanically (no explosives) and will include recycling materials from the structures as feasible. Footings and foundations may be removed as part of the project or at a later date. Soils will be stabilized with gravel to prevent erosion and match surrounding grades. It is anticipated approximately 1,000 cubic yards of gravel will be necessary for all five sites.
