Access to WUT truck staging area changes May 17

Beginning Friday, May 17, truck drivers will need to access the staging area for Washington United Terminals via Maxwell Ave., due to construction for WUT's upcoming emtpy yard move to Lot F (across the street from the terminal).  

Detour directions: Drivers should follow their normal approach to the staging area but continue north on Thorne Rd., then turn east (or right) on Maxwell Ave. Turn right into Lot F and proceed into the staging area. The detour will last 3 to 5 days depending on the weather. View map of detour.


Rail reports for week of May 13

The weekly rail reports estimate when trains may be blocking roads in the Port industrial area. The reports are subject to change.

If you are blocked by a train for more than 30 minutes or need an estimate of when the train will clear, contact Tacoma Rail's operations desk at 253-396-3161. The desk is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.


Reminder: Weight restrictions on two City of Tacoma bridges 

A reminder that the City of Tacoma has placed weight restrictions on two bridges crossing the Puyallup River near the Port industrial area.

There is a 10-ton limit on all vehicles driving on the East 11th Street Bridge from Portland Avenue to Milwaukee Way.

The Puyallup River Bridge, also known as the Eells Street Bridge, has the following restrictions between Portland Avenue and Milwaukee Way:

  • 18 tons for single vehicles
  • 28 tons for truck and trailer
  • 36 tons for truck and double trailers

The weight restriction on Puyallup's Valley Avenue Bridge has been lifted.


EB1 truck access

Truck access to East Blair 1 (EB1) will change beginning Monday, Dec. 10. The Kaiser cut through will close, and the current in/out gate will become an out gate only.

To access EB1, trucks should travel down Taylor Way. Turn left onto Lincoln Avenue and then left again on Alexander Avenue. Trucks will enter EB1 using the new entrance at the south end of the terminal and exit through the existing gate.

Early morning truck staging at PCT/Evergreen Terminal

From 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday:

  • Truck staging is allowed on the right shoulder of southbound State Route 509 between Alexander Avenue and Taylor Way.
  • Terminal access is not allowed from northbound State Route 509 or eastbound Alexander Avenue.
  • Trucks that fail to stage properly may be subject to fines.
