The Port of Tacoma's economic development efforts are not limited to maritime transportation activities.
The Port also plays an important role in real estate and industrial development, providing sites and facilities for manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, maintenance and repair, in addition to warehousing and distribution.
The Port offers more than 400 acrees of industrial land and one million square feet of buildings. The Port also has land at the Frederickson industrial development site 13 miles south of Tacoma. Zoned for heavy manufacturing, Frederickson has industrial capacity utilities and infrastructure in place.
The Port administers one of the nation's largest and most successful foreign trade zones, Foreign Trade Zone #86. The zone gives importers and exporters a flexible way to ship, store, manipulate and add value to goods while delaying or eliminating payment of U.S. Customs duties.
