Room to Grow

Our economic development efforts are not limited to maritime transportation activities. With nearly 2,500 acres of prime, deep water real estate, we are giving businesses a reason—and room—to grow.

Industrial development

The Port plays an important role in real estate and industrial development, providing sites and facilities for manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, maintenance and repair, in addition to warehousing and distribution.

Along with more industrial land and buildings in the Port industrial area, we also have available land at the Frederickson industrial development site 13 miles south of our Tacoma terminals. Zoned for heavy manufacturing, Frederickson has industrial capacity utilities and infrastructure in place.

Foreign-Trade Zone #86

We administer one of the nation's largest and most successful foreign trade zones, Foreign-Trade Zone #86. The zone gives importers and exporters a flexible way to ship, store, manipulate and add value to goods while delaying or eliminating payment of U.S. Customs duties.

Tenant improvements

Once approved by the Port, tenants are allowed to make changes, alterations and improvements to Port property.

Read the Tenant Improvement Procedure (by Tenant) (PDF) to understand the process.

To begin the review process, download and submit the Tenant Improvement Request form (Word document).
