Internships at the Port

Internships at the Port of Tacoma offer students the opportunity to participate in meaningful work experience and enhance their programs of study.

During internships, students apply classroom learning in a real work setting while also gaining access to the knowledge and expertise of Port staff. In return, the Port benefits from the work of the students in normal work activities and/or on special projects. The Port is proud to contribute to the next generation of a creative, energized and educated workforce.

The types and the number of internship opportunities vary each year and are offered with a variety of departments. Most internships are full-time during the summer months. Occasionally, the Port offers internships during the academic year on a part-time basis. 

To be eligible to participate in the Port's internship program, candidates must be enrolled in an accredited school, college or university. Students will be considered for internship opportunities based on qualifications and course of study. All internships are paid at an hourly rate.
