About the terminal: Maersk Line (a division of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group) and Sea-Land Service became Port customers in 1985. When AP Moller-Maersk acquired the international component of Sea-Land in December 1999, it renamed the combined operation Maersk Sealand. APM Terminals was formed in December 2002 as a sister company to Maersk Sealand, focused on worldwide terminal operations. In response to the global economic downturn, Maersk entered into a vessel sharing agreement with CMA-CGA in November 2008. Currently, Maersk cargo volumes move through the Port of Seattle at CMA-CGA's terminal.
The domestic division of Sea-Land became Horizon Lines in 2001. The company is based in Charlotte, N.C. Horizon Lines continues to call at APM Terminals.
