A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is required for unescorted access to restricted areas of the Port of Tacoma. Without exception, access is only granted to persons carrying a TWIC.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security identification program ensures that every individual has received a thorough background check and is not a security threat. It is required for all Port employees, terminal operators, longshore workers, truckers and others who require regular, unescorted access to restricted areas and vessels.

Need access but don't have a TWIC?

To access restricted Port facilities, you must be accompanied by a person who has been issued a TWIC and trained as an escort.

Please note: The following guidelines apply only to Port of Tacoma-operated terminals. Leased terminals at the Port have their own TWIC escort guidelines. Contact leased terminals for more information.

Access for non-TWIC holders:

  1. Park at the designated queuing area on Ross Way, near Port of Tacoma Road. See map below.
  2. Call any of the approved Port of Tacoma escorts found on this list.
  3. Make all arrangements -- including cost -- with your chosen approved escort.
  4. Wait for the escort to arrive at the queuing area and provide further instructions.
