FTZ #86 encompasses 833 acres (333 hectares) of Port-owned land in 19 sites. Some sites are adjacent or very near Port terminals.
Other sites are on Port-owned property zoned for manufacturing and heavy industry and are served by industrial-capacity utilities.
More than 1,300 acres (520 hectares) of privately owned and managed properties in Pierce County are also part of FTZ #86.

Features of FTZ #86:
- Gives importers and exporters a flexible way to ship, store, manipulate and add value to goods, while delaying or eliminating payment of U.S. Customs duties.
- Includes properties with covered and climate-controlled warehouses, adjoining office space, and large paved areas. Most sites are rail-served. Parcels within the FTZ range in size from less than two acres (.8 hectares) to as much as 86 acres (34.4 hectares).
Financial Benefits of FTZ #86:
- Improve cash flow management by delaying payment of U.S. Customs duties and excise taxes until goods leave the Zone to enter U.S. markets.
- Manufacture or process goods using a combination of domestic and imported materials/components, and pay U.S. Customs duties only on the value of the imported materials/components.
- Reduce U.S. Customs duties on goods manufactured or processed within the Zone, when imported components are dutiable at a higher rate than the finished goods.
- Eliminate U.S. Customs duties and fees on goods that are re-exported.
- Avoid import quota restrictions by holding excess goods in the Zone for release in the next quota period.
A variety of FTZ facilities and sites are available for short- and long-term lease.
