When it comes to air quality, it's clear the traditional frames of reference - ports, political boundaries, waterways - aren't meaningful. The Port of Tacoma understands the importance of collaborating with others to improve and protect our region's air quality.

We're committed to doing our part to protect human health and provide a healthy economy.

Our approach to air quality - as with other environmental issues - focuses on leadership instead of compliance:

• Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy - partnering with other ports to improve air quality in our region 
• Green Gateway - study identifying the Puget Sound as the lowest emission route from Asia to the U.S. Midwest
• Customer initiatives
• On-dock rail - minimizes truck traffic and emissions
